How to clean a Mass Airflow Sensor. Mass Airflow Sensor cleaning can increase fuel economy, stop hesitation and stalling, and shut off your check engine light. This is a simple procedure and in this video I go in-depth about cleaning the sensor and I take readings from an OBDII scanner to show before and after cleaning the sensor.
A mass airflow sensor gets dirty because of oiled filters such as a KNN air filter, air filters that are not replaced often enough, and dusty roads (salt, sand, pollen, etc). Symptoms of a dirty MAF sensor are hesitation, poor idle, bad fuel economy, and stalling. You can also get a check engine light with codes P0100, P0102, P0103, P0104, and P0105.

Average Fuel Economy for the month before I cleaned the sensor: 17.5mpg
1 fill-up later: 18.97mpg
2 fill-ups later: 20.86mpg
3 fill-ups later: 19.10mpg
4 fill-ups later: 20.1mpg
5 fill-ups later: 19.13mpg

Not sure if you check you old videos. Think this could cause my Outback to stall when I have the clutch pedal pressed? It runs fine while driving. Just when I come to a stop (or press the clutch in to come to a stop)

Why wouldn't you remove the sensor from the airbox to clean it? Seems like would be much easier that way.

Is there any chance that a MAF may be causing issues due to being faulty or dirty but without throwing a code? I am thinking of taking my wifes off her beetle to clean it as her car struggles to start and it lumpy when first started.

Someone used 70% alcohol to clean their MAF and it appeared to work as well. Well, I guess if person does need a MAF cleaner 70% isopropyl alcohol should work as a good subsitute.

You're the man, ChrisFix. The process worked a treat. Easy to follow, easy to do. Nothing beats a late-night, high-speed "diagnostic" ride. Had to test the throttle response. Lol.

Hi Chris, you say to clear the code after the repair and if the light doesn't come back on, then it is repaired.
How long should it take for the light to return if there is still a problem ?
Also, I think I heard that you can just go ahead and drive it, and if the problem is fixed, then the light will just go out.
    Is this true?
If so, then how long should it take for the light to go out?
