Great easy way to d9. How do dispose the old fluid and baster? Regular garbage?

BEFORE STARTING THE VEHICLE REFILL WITH FLUID AND BLEED THE AIR OUT BY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY LEFT AND ALL THE WAY RIGHT BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE AND AVOID DAMAGING THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND AVOID THE NOISE HE WAS SAYING HE DIDN'T WANT BUT HAD.

I thought this would be a Taurus or something. Familiar ps pump. But in Mazda, that makes sense. I tried flushing twice on my 79 Ranchero. Dead steering thought fluid was contaminated. Finally I disconnect a pressure hose and belt turning the pulley one hand holding the pressure end with the other, no force. Did the same test on one at the junkyard and sure enough there was force.

Make sure to use a more friendly plastic catch can and mark the outside with 1/4, 1/2 3/4, 1 quart marks, (calibrate using water and a kitchen measure), so you know how much fluid you removed AND how much to expect to fill with new fluid….

OK, comparing apples to oranges. When you obtain an automatic transmission "fluid service", There is about 50% of the old ATF that remains in the torque converter. You do normally also receive a new transmission filter, but, HALF of the old fluid is mixed when new ATF fluid is added…. SO, for a "less critical" power steering system, IF I can also obtain about the same 50% – or more of the new fluid; I would call that a WIN…. Granted, it is NOT a complete changing of the fluid, but, the PS pump will be happy with any new fluid that you use AND with a LOT LESS WORK…. (If you were to perform this "easier" method again in a week or so, the old to new fluid ratio would change from about 50%-50% to about 25% old to 75 % new fluid)….

I just suck the fluid out of the reservoir every now and then, and replace it with fresh, a few times a year. It of course doesnโ€™t get it all, but it in general keeps the fluid reasonably clean. Itโ€™s also how I handle brake fluid.

Can someone please explain how the air in the system gets bleed out if Chris puts the cap of the reservoir back on?
