Learn how to change your rear differential fluid. In this process I unbolt the differential cover (pumpkin cover) because there is no drain plug. Then I make my own gasket with RTV because I couldnt get a gasket for this differential. Only basic tools are needed and anyone could do this job. I rarely use a torque wrench for such a small bolt, if your doing it yourself shop the torking you can feel when it I setting snug,
Great video. Only one comment I have is cleaning a lot before removing the filler plug and cover would be a good idea. Just using a wire brush and clean because differentials really hate dirt and contaminants. Cover the gears with a towel when you’re cleaning the surface to assure nothing gets inside. 👌
I love at the end “check out these other videos I did” and you see another one or two that saved your ass already 😂
soapy wadda
Why you don’t open the drain plug to drain it ?
Doesn’t the diff have a drain plug to let the oil out? I’m a novice ‘mechanic’ and thought that all diffs had a drain plug.
I've done this job 3x on my Yukon
First I did Rtv that Needed 24 hours to cure, It leaked.
Second I used only a Felpro Gasket leaked again
This time I used both Rtv and the Felpro Waited 24 hours before I added Gear oil….Still leaking
good summary
Would the process be the same for a 99-04 mustang?
thank, you for you're video.
the old gear oil comes in great for using in the wood STOVE INSIDE the shop in the winter months. a good way to get rid of it.
I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 2wd with a 140 K I don't think the differential fluid has been changed do you advise a change with an additive?
Does this work for the front differential?
I brought brand new Suzuki every da17 it's already 44,000km done do I need to change the gear oil ?
