Learn how to replace a Ford quick disconnect style fuel filter using a home-made quick disconnect tool made from a pen cap or using a store bought quick disconnect tool. This method will work on any Ford vehicles with a quick disconnect fuel filter. The vehicle I used is my 2001 Mazda Pickup (Ford Ranger).

I’m going to try and do the fuel filter on my Ranger, I’m assuming that running the engine and removing the fuel pump fuse whilst it’s running isn’t a brilliant idea with a diesel?

Man I just take the gas cap off and take the filter off I’ve never dealt with fuses or starting it like that have I been doing it wrong? Lol i just deal with getting sprayed I guess I’d I didn’t have to? Lol

You forgot to crack your fuel cap so any in tank pressure is released. That's what pushes fuel out the line.

Lol… Boom, it's that easy. 5 people including myself have tried to remove my fuel lines from my fuel filter. No one can get it off, used the plastic and scissors-metal type tools, used PB Blaster and Carburetor Cleaner to soak, it's been 2 weeks and no one can get it off.

Possible oring seized, the filter is able to rotate, fuel lines move on and off the fuel line post, yet there's a slight bend in that male connector/post end of the filter that goes into the push connect.

So not sure what to do. Tempted to start cutting things.

hello Chris, I have an F150 that I’m trying to trouble shoot crank but no start on and I want to try changing the fuel filter. Problem is I had just filled up the gas and now it is not running. How else would you go about disconnecting these lines so the fuel doesn’t spill everywhere?

I'm lacking tools and this hack may just get our Explorer running again! My brother helped me get the fuel pump replaced but we couldn't get the filter off. His plastic clips wore out and he ran out of time. I might be able to finish the job now myself! Thanks for sharing!

You can push in the orange piece by hand to make it disconnect also.
Too bad the parts today are crap. The lines are a bear to get on/off my new filter (old filter was easy). I had to verify that the pump was working by taking off a line and, now, it won't lock back on because it is too hard to push in place.

I found it much easier to just depress the fuel line connects with a screw driver
